Hetrogeneous Hardening of Machine Parts by the Cutting and Deforming Maching with Surface Plastic Deformation

Abstract

It is proposed to use a new method to improve the operational properties of precise and flexible machine parts by the use of the combined cutting and deforming machining process with the help of surface plastic deformation (SPD), which allows the heterogeneous structure of the surface layer to be formed. The method involves rolling of the wavy relief which was cut on the workpiece. Modeling of heterogeneous hardening with the help of SPD by finite element method in the DEFORM 2D program has been carried out. By means of modeling it has been established that the most rational way is to cut a relief of a triangular profile with an angle of 90° before SPD. It provides the greatest deformation degree in the surface layer of the part to be treated and thus hardening in the absence of rolling laps. Formulas for calculation of the workpiece diameter have been obtained. Experimental studies of the combined processing have been carried out, which confirmed the modeling results.
