A Study on Impact of National and Global Events on Performance of Indian Mutual Fund: Pre and Post Event Analysis

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact on national and international political and economic events on performance of selected mutual funds. For this two categories of mutual fund, ICICI Prudential Focused Blue chip Fund- Growth (Equity diversified mutual fund) and ICICI Prudential Income Fund- Growth (Debt Fund) are considered. We have considered four latest events happen in 2016. Out of these events, two are National events (Demonetization and GST) and two are International events (BREXIT and wining US election by Donald Trump. Event study has been taken as analytical tool to assess the impact on of events on mutual funds in terms of their return, and for the event study the event window of 21 days (i.e. 10 days before and 10 days after the event day including event day) will consider for abnormal return and estimation window of 21 days consider for normal return. The time gap between event window and estimation window is 90 days. Expected results of this study suggest that these events either National or Global affect the mutual fund performance in terms of volatility in NAV of mutual funds.
