Smart grid is the state of the art concept with little theoretical concepts. In this paper state of art of smart grids to clarify the concepts is presented. This paper presents why electricity grids should be part of the smart energy systems and how they can be used for electricity balancing and stabilization of the grid. The present status of smart grids at home and abroad is analyzed. Smart grids at home from Karnataka perspective considering a case study about the pilot project on smart grid implementation in Mysore district by Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply are discussed. It presents the current statistics of the project phase being implemented and various parameters being addressed in implementing smart grid over a specific are is presented.
