Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, former Prime Minister of India has rightly said that “If you educate a man you educate an individual, however, if you educate a woman you educate a whole family. Women empowered means mother India empowered”. India in its ancient time had no opportunities for women to get education, neither to take decisions at home nor to come out of her house for work. Many women fought against the old rituals and in the recent days’ women have reached the level equal to men almost in all the fields. This has happened due to empowering women by educating her. Education is one major tool which empowers women to achieve their goals and to contribute innovative ideas for the sustainable development of the Nation. The study examined education for women and sustainable development in the Karnataka State. Data used for this study were primary sources of data. The data were analyzed using SPSS, percentage and correlation and was found that education will empower women has positive effect in the society. There exists positive relationship between the educated women, who is empowered has the effect on sustainable development. The study recommends that education as a tool to empower women who will know the ethical aspects and also her rights to help in to contribute meaningfully for the development of their society in the long run.
