Teaching Strategies in Mathematics

Abstract

This article describes and presents the interview data of teaching strategies in Mathematics for vocational students. Data on the relevant teaching strategies were obtained by interview method. Six Mathematics teachers were identified as the respondents of the study and were interviewed. The respondents were asked pertaining teaching strategies for Mathematics subject. They were required to describe the strategies applied in teaching Mathematics and suggest suitable strategies in teaching vocational students. The interview data were analysed. Relevant themes were identified, them coded and categorised using Atlas.ti. The reliability of the data was identified using Cohen Kappa Analysis. The finding showed that various teaching strategies were employed in the classroom. Five strategies were identified in teaching Mathematics, which teaching by student-centred, teaching by hands-on activity, teaching by using model, teaching by outcome-based and teaching by using technology.
