Nowadays the permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have got a wide space in many traction and industrial applications due to their high power density. The desired PMSM performance characteristics can be obtained by implementing suitable drive control. The vector control is provided by a quadrature axis (q-axis) current command developed by the proportional integral (PI) controller. The closed-loop operation is performed by giving feedback of the output speed of the motor. This paper implements and presents the performance analysis of a combined pulse width modulation (PWM) and pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) based vector control of PMSM drive for wide speed operation. The harmonic analysis of the entire drive is done by inverter control, rectifier control and simultaneous inverter and rectifier control. The harmonic studies of space vector modulation (SVM) and sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) based inverter control; effects of loading, filter are carried also reported in thiswork.
