Abstract

Industries are the backbone of the modern developing world. And the large part of the industrial processes are dependent on the electric motors. The most extensively used electric motors are the induction motors due to its robustness, reliability, high performance and capability to work under variable operating conditions in the electrical power system. These motors are mostly controlled by inverter fed systems that change the line frequency. The dependence of inverter based motor control is a major problem for industrial uses and therefore, it becomes vital for design engineers to have different analysis of the inverter fed induction machine. A real time fault analysis system is required for the proper running of the machinery. This paper presents an efficient method for capacitor fault diagnostics of a single-phase induction motor using acoustic signal analysis. Experiments were conducted to analyze acoustic signal of capacitors in various conditions. Complex Wavelet Transform (CWT) is used to identify the faulty feature of the capacitor. The developed approach can also find applications for fault diagnosis of other type fault in machines.
