This study seeks to highlight urban and architectural characteristics of the historical Hejaz Railway rout in Amman city which was constructed during the Ottoman rule in 1908. Special concern of this study is the urban environment of the railway and how it affects the localities it passes through and the options for development the railway can bring to local residence. This research uses descriptive and analytical approaches to surveys and analyzes urban data of the study area in order to identify and evaluate problematic urban formations, social and economical patterns. Surveys of existing urban and socio-economical conditions are conducted. The findings are organized according to priorities to the railway area and residents which indicated a lack of supervision and awareness of the role the railway can play to improve the resident's lives and the railway environment. This study concludes that engaging communities in investments that employs the history of the Hejaz railway in the benefit of local communities can bring more sustainable and resilient changes to enhance local economy and tourism and improve the railway environment.
