Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm Controlled Chopper Driven PMDC Motor

Abstract

Permanent Magnet Direct Current (PMDC) motors are preferred widely in biological applications due to their linear speed torque characteristics. Conventional PI controller driven chopper drives are employed to control the speed torque characteristics of these motors. These drives suffer from poor steady state and transient state responses. To enhance their operation, this paper suggests Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based chopper drive system. The proposed system regulates the optimal pulse width required for the drive circuit. Simulation analysis of the proposed scheme of interest reveals the improved control system characteristics.
