Design of Modified Multifunctional Patch Antenna with U-Slots for Wireless Applications

Abstract

A compact single-layer micro strip line fed U slot patch antenna is designed to get multiple frequencies and wide bandwidth. This structure is proposed for multiple applications such as GPS, WLAN, WiMAX, Bluetooth, etc. The proposed antenna design is simulated in Ansoft HFSS v13.0 software. The preferable antenna provides multiple bands from 1.5GHz to 4.5GHz for a FR4 substrate which has dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1.6 mm. This antenna is fabricated and simulated through Network Analyser. Thus this antenna achieves wide bandwidth and exhibits good radiation pattern around at all frequencies. Simulation and measured results are well matched. Thus this modified multifunctional patch antenna with U-Slots is suitable for wireless communication.
