Organizational Citizenship Behaviour And Leadership Effectiveness In Banking Sector Performance: Evidence From South-West Nigeria

Abstract

No organization rises above the overall quality of its human resource. For organizational success and competitive advantage human capital is the key factor being the major driver of change, innovation and organizational sustainability. Organizationalcitizenship behavior (OCB)isa term that encompasses anything positive and constructivethat employeesdo,oftheirownvolition,whichsupportsco-workers andbenefits the company.This study assessed the effects of Organizational CitizenshipBehaviour(altruismandconscientiousness) on the performance of Deposit MoneyBanks(efficiency and costs reduction)where leadership effectiveness is the moderating factorinRiversState. Adopting a survey design, the study made use of primary data collected mainly through administering a set of questionnaire to 269 employees of selected NMDBs inPort Harcourtmetropolis. 243 copiesofthe questionnaireoutofthe totalnumberofretrievedcopiesofquestionnaire were validly completedandusefulforanalyses. Findings inter alia revealedthat: OCBispositivelyrelated toavariety oforganizationaleffectivenessmeasures (including productionquantity,efficiency,profitability,and reductionof costs). The work among other things, recommends that sinceOCBofbank officialsindicatespositiveandsignificantinfluencetowardsthe organizationalperformancethus,themanagementshould takeintoaccountthespecial attention andtreatmenttoenhancetheidentifiedindicatorsthatcreatedtheOCBvariableand theorganizationaleffectivenessvariable inordertodeliverexcellentserviceperformancesto thebankcustomers.
