A Bibliometric Research Analysis for Online Booking

Abstract

The term “online booking” has been widely used among common citizens in any countries in the world for making basic reservations such as hotel or travel bookings. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze the scientific literature published for the term ‘online booking’ from the year 1987 till 2020. Scopus database was utilized to collect all the related literature and Microsoft Excel was used for data storing. Microsoft Excel was employed for data analysis. The growth of publications, research productivity and citation analysis were presented using standard bibliometric analysis. Based on the search results, a total of 1034 documents were retrieved. The growth rate of literature for online booking increased drastically toward the year 2019. Most of the articles were published in English language with a total of 975 publications. Most of the research for online booking was in the business, management and accounting. The common keywords such as internet, electronic commerce, hotels, reservation systems, sales, websites, human, online reviews, tourism, online systems and more represent the main areas of research covered for online booking. In addition, most of the research related to the stated term was conducted in United States and multi-authored with highest number of publication which is 158 documents. This study presents the evolution of the scientific literature in online booking and identifies areas of current research interests and potential directions for future research.
