Abstract

This study aims to contribute to leisure industry development in South Korea. The study investigates the relationships between leisure facilitation, recreation specialization and wellness for South Korean adults engaged in leisure activities. A total of 362 adults were recruited and administered questionnaires assessing demographic characteristics, leisure facilitation, recreation specialization and wellness. The leisure facilitation scale used was that by Kim and Lee; the recreational specialization scale was that by Lee et al.; and the wellness scale was that by Choi et al. We conducted frequency, reliability, correction, confirmatory factor and structure equaling modeling analyses using PASW Statistics 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The results were as follows: (1) leisure facilitation had no influence on recreation specialization; (2) leisure facilitation had no influence on wellness; and (3) recreation specialization had a positive influence on wellness. These results suggest the need for a supportive leisure industry in terms of facilities, programs and leaders for leisure activities. In this way, people are enabled and encouraged to participate in activities and thereby improve their quality of life.
