Cloud computing technology has paved way for many resource intensive applications that can be carried out. Big data is one of the possibilities with cloud computing resources. Big data and cloud go hand in hand and various distributed computing frameworks are used for mining big data. When big data is outsourced to cloud, it is essential to ensure privacy, security and trust. There might be number of internal and external attacks possible as the big data is stored in public cloud. In presence of strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) between Cloud Service Provider (CSP) and data owners, it is indispensable to address issues and challenges related to privacy and security. Security is essential not only for cloud computing but also for big data analytics. In this paper we reviewed literature on present state of the art and also made empirical study on the PASCloud which is meant for secure storage and retrieval of both structured and unstructured data. Experiments made with Amazon EC2 revealed that the PASCloud outperforms state of the art methods in terms of privacy preserving public auditing.
