Abstract

This paper discusses the currents of Islamic literature within humanity-based Islamic contemporary and multiculturalism period. Under this period, the literature was marked with the existence of tendency which colors the dynamics Islamic literature in Indonesia, such as the phenomena of ‘dark poetry’ influenced by the postmodernism and popular literature with the genre of romantic literature. The existence of Islamic literature has enriched the wealth of Indonesia literature although the recent mainstream genre is romantic literature which only discusses life and more ‘serious’ ideas which portions are less available in the contemporary Islamic literature themes. The presence of contemporary Islamic literature may not be separated from the community’s social conditions existed around the literary works, including the understanding on the recent developing post-modernism. The religious discourse has once again become stronger when the world society comes to the third millennium. The willingness of coming back to the religion may not be separated from the recent happening modernity crises among the society. Modernity may not only result in the material welfare for some parts of the society but also contain various paradoxes, dehumanization and alienation. Theological reconstruction is currently highly required by every religion in order to face the contemporary humanity challenges. Thus, religion may provide a direction, meaning and goal for man’s life and perform in more friendly, fresh, open, and humanistic manners.
