Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is infrastructure-less, self-configured, dynamic network where nodes frequently move from one place to another. The route between a pair of nodes may change frequently because of the mobility of the nodes leading to the frequent link breaks in the network. Ad-Hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol re-establishes the route by Route Maintenance technique. We discuss the shortcomings of the existing AODV Route Maintenance technique. We propose an efficient Route Maintenance technique that considers the parallel processing of Local Route Repair and new Route Discovery on the event of a link break on active route. Simulation results also show the improvement in the performance of the AODV routing protocol.
