Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) domain is one of the vital emergent fields in today’s smart world with plenty of applications such as defense, environment and wildlife monitoring, healthcare etc. In order to optimize the network parameters, the clustering scheme along with the cluster head selection scheme play key role. Furthermore, it is not guaranteed that the routing scheme which is designed for homogeneous networks will also be suitable for heterogeneous networks. In this paper, author has designed an Optimized & Energy Efficient Routing Scheme (OEERS) in heterogeneous wireless sensor networks. In this work, the selection of particular cluster head is going to happen with the probability values based on available energy levels along with optimal cluster counts and node distance from base station. Hence, nodes with higher energy and located in close proximity of base station have privileged probability for selection as cluster head (CH). The simulation results show the supremacy of OEERS as offering better network lifetime, energy saving along with higher rate of packet transmission.
