Sustainable societies are committed to the rational and adequate use of endogenous resources, whether natural or anthropogenic; currently there are different processes that are causing negative effects on the environment. Geographic information systems (GIS) play a significant role in achieving the integration of space for the benefit of society, including energy, water, natural resources, land use and the risks of natural disasters, among others; constituting an instrument of transparency and control in the planning of the territory. The research, shows practical examples developed in the Manabí province, with the use of this tool, related to the inventories of resources and activities that produce negative impacts on the environment, offering timely and reliable information related to the availability of endogenous resources and the possibilities of its adequate use to reduce environmental damage caused by technological development, all focused on the construction of sustainable localities. It shows an adequate method that guarantees the provision of information on the availability of endogenous resources and access to technologies that are respectful with nature, so that local actors can be empowered by friendly solutions with the cultural traditions of the communities and environmental protection. , in a scheme of local management of resources, services and risks, where these become direct suppliers of the goods they demand, fostering an environment of equity in the use of resources and the wealth generated by the territory.
