VANET (Vehicular Ad hoc Networks) is a special kind of MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) to provide communication among vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to fixed equipments and fixed to fixed equipment. VANETs are generally used for improving efficiency and safety of transportation. There are chances of number of possible attacks in VANET due to open nature of wireless medium. In this research, we have classified these security attacks and logically organized in a clearer manner based on the level of effect of a particular security attack on intelligent vehicular traffic. Also, an effective solution is proposed for detection and prevention of network from the DDoS attacks. In VANET, RSU’s (Road Side Units) is a permanent device being located on roadside which assists in network maintenance and facilitates the routing method. So, in VANET, attackers can easily attacks on the RSU and a prevention mechanism is must to get rid from these attackers. Therefore, in this research, a framework is designed for prevention of network from the DDoS attacks using the routing optimization mechanism with ABC (Artificial Bee Colony) algorithm. Proposed scheme enhances the security mechanism in VANETs without using any cryptographic scheme which is energy saving process. The proposed mechanism is simulated to depict the efficiency of utilizing ABC modelling in the proposed work for the detection of DDoS attack. For depicting the efficacy of the proposed mechanism, different performance parameters are considered and in the end, a comparison has been drawn to show the productivity of the work.
