Enhancement of Coefficient of Performance for Polyalkylene Glycol (PAG) Oil with Addition of Silver Nanoparticles for Refrigerant Application

Abstract

Nanorefrigerant is a new emergent of nanofluids. They are mixtures of nanoparticles and refrigerant, the nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed in the refrigerant to form nanorefrigerant. This paper discusses the effects of silver nanoparticles with regard to the thermo-physical properties, power consumption and COP of a domestic refrigerator. In the present study, R134a based nanorefrigerant from R134a + Ag/ Polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil nanolubricant was prepared by dispersing silver nanoparticles in the PAG lubricant oil. The overall performance of vapour compression system (VCR) with nanorefrigerant was evaluated and compared with the performance of VCR system with pure PAG oil. The study concluded that Ag/PAG oil works normally with the VCR system and the COP of the system was found to be increased by 14% when pure PAG oil was replaced with Ag/ PAG oil.
