Seismic Control of Slender Liquid Storage Tank Isolated by Variable Radius Friction Pendulum System under Far Fault Ground Motions

Abstract

Earthquake response has been carried out of an isolated liquid storage steel tank with VRFPS under far fault ground motions. Motion equation which is solved using Newmark’s linear acceleration method. The comparison has been made between the response of an isolated liquid storage tank using VRFPS and the same tank isolated with FPS. It is observed that base shear, impulsive displacement & convective displacement is reduced in VRFPS as compared to that of FPS. Displacement which is Isolator and residual is more in VRFPS as compared to that of FPS.
