Abstract

This paper presents the performance of lightweight wedge-shaped biomass microwave absorbers designed for anechoic chamber. This research uses wedge shape design and biomass materials targeting in eliminating backscatter at high incidence angle. The biomass materials chosen in designing the absorbers are coconut ash, palm ash and coconut husk based on the astonishing performance found from previous studies. The design was simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio Software. By using free space arch method, the reflectivity performances of the designed microwave absorber were measured and compared. The absorber is design to be functioning at frequency range between 8 to 12 GHz (X-Band). The investigations showed that the wedge-shaped microwave absorber filled with coconut husk has better performance than the hollow absorbers. In spite of this, the best performance recorded was when the biomass is moulded into solid polyurethane foam.
