The health and productivity of a given plant depends on several factors. Two of these factors are the amount of water and nutrients received by the plant. Too little or too much of these may drastically affect the health and productivity of the plant. Thus, a system that constantly monitors the moisture level of a given crop and irrigates the crop to maintain an optimal moisture level in the soil for that crop was developed. A modular, top-down methodology was used to develop the software which was implemented on an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The system continuously monitors the soil’s moisture levels and open or close the valves that control the water flow to the crop.
