M. Geetha, Dr.S. Palaniswami and Dr.S. Suresh
Abstract

This paper presents a three-phase STATCOM designed and modeled with multilevel cascaded inverter bridges comprising of isolated DC sources. The new CMC bridges provide good modularity, scalability and good power quality, when compared to the other VSC bridges. The multi-level inverters and three-phase transformer are used to realize the operation of STATCOM. The developed control strategy employed to balance DC link voltage and harmonic current compensation. To simplify the control system design, well designed models of CMC in both ABC and DQ0 coordinates are proposed. The accuracy of the system was verified by implementing cascaded multi-level STATCOM in MATLAB/Simulink and MATLAB/PLECS environment and results are presented.
