This article shows the potential of using vetiver system (VS) based on the use of vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides L.) for the treatment of wastewater generated by the campus outlet of National Office of Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE) of Rabat. A pilot experimental setup (tank) was constructed to assess the potential of VS for treating wastewater. His hydraulic load capacity to reach is 1 m3/m²/day. The height of the tank is 64 cm, length is 114 cm and width is 90 cm, the tank using PVC pipes with controlling valves and pipe fitting, it has also outlet and inlet. The density of vetiver planting on the surface of the filter massif is 12 plants/m2.The treated water obtained from outlet and the wastewater were analysed for various water quality parameters: Biological oxygen demand (BOD), Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and Solids Suspended (SS). The vetiver system is able to remove 80 to 99 % of BOD, 71 to 90 % of COD, 93 to 99 % of SS and the parameters values of treated water are within the permissible limits for domestic rejects (National legislation).
