Abstract

In the recent the power system security threat is one of the major issues. The phasor measurement units are used to measure the phasor values of voltage and current to the control center of the smart grid. So, the meters have to measure the phasor values of all the buses but in recent era the measured values are passed wirelessly using wireless sensor networks. If the system has a greater number of buses then the cost of the meter increases. To reduce the meter cost the optimal number of meters has to be placed. For doing it complete observability is required. So, the mathematical formulation is done and the equation is mathematically minimizing the number of meters and improves the observability. In this paper the Improved Particle Swarm Optimization (IPSO) is used to identify the placed meter counts. The IEEE 14, and IEEE 30 bus systems are used here to prove the results with extra one example 7-bus system.
