The problem with the existing indoor Wi-Fi networks compose of many factors such as bandwidth limitations, security issues, and health hazards. The implementation of an indoor, point to point visible light communication (VLC) system using an intensity modulated, direct detection scheme is investigated in this paper. The main results detailed in this paper is a hardware implementation of a point-to-point VLC system using commercially available LED’s and photodiodes, and the performance of such a system in real-world environments with respect to bit accuracy, and signal detection ranges.
