Data Encryption Standard (DES) is an encryption standard used in various applications. But DES is considered unsecured since it is prone to different attacks. In this study, enhancement of DES is proposed by adding multiple XOR operation in the f – function using filtering and striding technique to increase the complexity of the algorithm. New techniques in the key generation was added using average pooling. This proposed algorithm provides better security. The result has been evaluated and compared to the original DES using avalanche effect and encryption time. It resulted to an average of .55 avalanche effect and .018ms encryption time. This means that the modification provides higher degree of randomness and improves the security against the known attack to DES.
