Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to proposed a new framework for promoting safety culture in the port industry in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach – The port industry has now become one of the most hazardous industries worldwide. Workplace safety remains a field of interest in the port industry due to the increasing number of accidents at the workplace. Thus, the safety culture model in the context of the port industry was developed based on the adaptation of the Reciprocal Safety Culture Model. Findings – The review of literature shows the importance of two behavior variables in promoting safety culture which are management commitment and training. These proposed variables can be test for further research. Originality/Value – This model can be used and implemented by the organization of the port industries.
