Abstract

Currently, new technologies such as wireless sensor networks (WSN) are being used to support the agricultural sector, so as to improve the performance of this sector and solve its problems. Wireless sensor networks have become a very important technology that is capable of managing, detecting, transmitting, and processing environmental data in an autonomous manner without human intervention. Irrigation is considered one of the agricultural services that guarantee the success of agriculture. The employ of wireless sensor networks in the management and control of irrigation systems is an ideal solution to avoid excessive irrigation and preserve water while developing the agricultural sector and decreasing the water crisis in the world. This work proposes and describes a precision irrigation system. The proposed system depends on the wireless sensor network, which uses a group of specific sensor nodes to perform measurements of weather properties and soil properties and then analyses and treats these measured data to promote the process of decision-making in irrigation, all in order to properly control the irrigation system.
