In this paper, we propose a protocol conversion algorithm that is compatible with various IIoT sensors applied to smart factories that are part of Industry 4.0, and an edge device using them.The edge gateway is developed with hardware specialized to support various wired and wireless protocols in addition to Modbus and Ethernet, and a specialized software module based on Open API that converts into a standard protocol is applied. In addition, Edge Gateway applies intelligent processing models / algorithms to enable continuous upgrades utilizing the rich resources of the cloud.The proposed IIoT-based edge gateway measured the real-time data processing time to verify the data collection performance. For the experiment, the average time of 0.0196 seconds was confirmed by measuring the elapsed time of the data conversion algorithm in the program. In addition, to confirm the accuracy of data transmission from the edge gateway to the monitoring system, when the data sent from the edge gateway is received by the PC, the data is 100% identical. Experimental results show that edge gateways have better performance than comparable single protocol devices.The proposed algorithm and system can be applied to preventive maintenance of mechanical facilities by using deep learning and big data in the future and can be used as a base technology in providing diagnostic and analysis services
