Women Workforce Participation: An Analysis of North Eastern Region of India

The social and economic development of a country significantly depends on the participation rates of the female population of the country, because it is seen that generally in a region around 50 percent of its human resources are female (NIPCCD, 2010). The study regarding workforce participation of women is vital towards understanding the socio-economic functioning of a region. The workforce participation rate and occupational composition among them certainly reveal their economic status and the system of social organization in it. In fact, the workforce participation rate and the occupational pattern among women of a region greatly determine the character of its socio-economic progress. In this study an attempt has been made to analyze the trend of workforce participation among the women workers in North Eastern Region (NER) of India.
