Abstract

The obstructions (bodies) placed in the path of flowing fluid, when creates flow separation for a certain section of their surface areas are known as bluff bodies. Bluff bodies exhibit the phenomenon of vortex shedding for both laminar and turbulent flows. Array of cylinders convey different results as compared to single cylinder when placed in a flowing fluid. This takes place due to the occurrence of the flow interference of the vortices produced by different arrays of cylinders. Cylinders of various cross sections such as circular, elliptic, and square can have arrangement in tandem, side-by-side and staggered configuration. Present paper reveals the study of the various re- searchers in the field of fluid flowing over arrays of elliptic and square cross section cylinders. This paper will provide a significant re- view about the previous research work, which was conducted by various researchers in this field. This paper will anticipate the various recesses in the previous research work, which will help the new researchers to perform more research work in this field.
