A Study on Applications of Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT)

Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT) is a new class of Internet of Things (IoT), and is described as the network of smart interconnected underwater objects. Different communication media such as acoustic, wireless, wired plays a significant role for underwater communication deployment. IoUT enabled practical applications are environmental monitoring, underwater exploration, military, disaster management and other application areas like sports, localization. Underwater Wireless Sensor Network (UWSN) is prominent technology to support IoUT for enabling its applications. Features of UWSNs and Terrestrial Wireless Sensor Networks (TWSNs) are different like propagation delay, reliability, transmission media, transmission rate, transmission range, and mobility. In this paper, we present a comprehensive literature study of IoUT based practical underwater applications and its supporting technologies.
