Abstract

Nursing home nurses are usually associated with work-related stress due to their high demanding, difficult and stressful job characteristics. This article is aiming to highlight the role of job demands and job resources towards job stress specifically among nursing home nurses. In particular, nurses in nursing home care centres face greater levels of physical job requirements, more emotional exhaustion, and reduced levels of work resources relative to other units, leading to greater stress. Suggested social support from supervisors and coworkers as well as elevated level of job control are suggested to decrease the effect of job stress. The findings of this study are expected to help related organisation such as private nursing home and Social Welfare Department (SWD) to develop the policy that can improve quality of care of nursing home services in Malaysia. By understanding this issue it may reduce the burden of nursing home nurses through reducing job demands and increasing job resources, which may improve level of job stress.
