Abstract

Hazard radiation indexes were measured for 16 samples of flour which found in Iraqi markets. The radiation activity of radio nuclides (238U, 232Th and 40K) and its daughter for all samples were detected by using a detector sodium iodide type mixed with thallium Na (TI) (3*3). Uranium concentration varies from (3.963±0.275 Bq.kg-1) to (10.329±0.286 Bq.kg-1) with an average of (6.375±260 Bq.kg-1).Thorium concentration varies from (0.165±0.046 Bq.kg-1) to (1.069±0.027Bq.kg-1) with an average of (0.80175±0.0259 Bq.kg-1) Potassium concentration varies from (98.483±1.197 Bq.kg-1) to (233.831±2.481Bq.kg-1) with an average of (160.412 ±1.525 Bq.kg-1), The results revealed that the radium equivalent ranges were (Raeq) from (10.739 Bq.Kq-1) to (26.505 Bq.kg1) with an average of (20.451Bq.kg-1), while the Activity concentration coefficient varies from (0.092Bq.kg-1) to (0.28Bq.kg-1) with an average of (0.162 Bq.kg-1). The internal hazard index (Hin) ranged from (0.029Bq.kg-1) to (0.097Bq.kg-1) with an average of (0.072Bq.kg-1) while the external hazard index was between (0.029Bq.kg-1) and (0.072Bq.kg-1) with an average of (0.055 Bq.Kg-1). It was also found that the values of the absorbed dose in the air ranged between (5.7214Gy/h) and (13.455Gy/h) with an average of(10.445 nGy\h), whereas the value of internal annual effective was between (0.168mSv/Y) to (0.396 mSv/Y) with an average of (0.306mSv/Y), the value of external annual effective was between (0.053mSv\Y) to (0.97mSv\Y) with an average (0.1550Sv\Y) .the result were less than the recommended by the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), United Nations and Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) respectively, and do not constitute any danger to the consumer.
