Design of Broadband OSRR Compact Multiband Antenna for WiMAX/WLAN/ITU Applications

In this work, design of broadband compact multiband metamaterial antenna for wireless operation is investigated. The proposed antenna composes of multiple OSRR radiating element and modified step ground plane which provides broader bandwidth and multiple resonance frequencies. Since OSRR structure are narrowband structures. This paper mainly aims at the studied of modified ground effects on the bandwidth enhancement of the antenna. The various shaped of ground planes like tapered, semi-tapered, staircase and single step ground plane are studied and compared. The proposed designed antenna has desirable small dimension of 27.5 × 16.08 mm2 which is designed and developed. It is used to covers various applications like IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.16 and ITU band applications. The proposed antenna has multiple resonance frequency bands with good radiation characteristics as compared to the design in previous article.
