This paper explains the importance of communication for engineering students hailing from rural areas and their academic and career problems and outlining possible remedies for the same. Most engineering students are from rural areas and are intelligent enough to get into higher education but are unable to keep up in English communication competence. Due to this, they face various problems in academics and career. This can be done by the integrated effort of teachers and students including active participation of both in teaching-learning methods such as question-answer sessions, group discussions, role-plays and language lab sessions.
