Lifetime Estimation Algorithm based on Aging for Heterogeneous Wireless Network

Abstract

To prolong the network lifetime, energy proficient protocols should be designed for reliable transfer of data in wireless sensor network. This paper studies the aging characteristic of nodes to formulate the actual lifetime for heterogeneous wireless sensor network. A new algorithm based on declining capacity of batteries due to aging is taken into consideration to formulate the actual lifetime for heterogeneous WSN. The proposed scheme is evaluated by real hardware a sensor and twenty different brands of Alkaline, NiMH and Li batteries. Two contributions are proposed in this work: i) The lifetime estimation of node based on battery capacity, discharge rate and aging as impact factors. ii) Integration with routing protocol.
