Abstract

The wide-range implementation of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is blocked by severely limited energy constraints of individual sensor nodes. Hence forth most of the research in sensor networks focuses on reduction in energy consumption and maximizing energy efficiency, life time of the network. In this paper, a new routing protocol called Enhanced Homogeneous Multicast Clustering Hierarchy (EHMCH) is proposed. This algorithm reduces traffic through efficient mobile sink data aggregation with multicast clustering. EHMCH model consist of Clusters, Cluster Heads (CH), Polling Point (PP) and Mobile Gateways (MG). Performance evaluation of EHMCH is carried out through simulation tests, which evince the effectiveness of this protocol in terms of energy efficiency, energy consumption, packet delivery ratio, throughput, delay and loss when compared with other well-known protocols like LEACH, E-LEACH, M-LEACH and FTDA.
