The Malaysian Construction Industry Transformation: Towards Knowledge-based Economy and ICT Applications

The Malaysian construction industry is a crucial economic agent for the global economy and demonstrates a substantial effect on economic growth. The paper was formed on literature combination of the Malaysian construction industry and the challenges it needs to overcome. The demand for innovation is increasing as the economy needs to develop global and nationally. The construction industry involves a broad range of players and organizations, which need to adopt an innovation, which is enabled through knowledge, to be able to capture growth beyond the domestic market and become competitive. Consequently, Information Technology (IT) strategy plan was purposely developed for the construction industry to realize vision 2020. The paper suggests a transformation of the Malaysian construction industry towards knowledge-based and successful implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
