Background/Objectives: Traffic signal systems provide signals for pedestrians and vehicles by taking into account the general flow of traffic. At present the traffic system is not able to appropriately respond to situations that occur in the pedestrian zone, take into account those who are vulnerable within the traffic system or extensions for pedestrians.Methods/Statistical analysis: The IoT environment is evolving as part of the traffic system that goes beyond being an application. In this paper, a traffic signal system with an IoT device that uses an IoT signal control broker is suggested. To ensure the priority rights of pedestrians and reduce the risks of accidents for pedestrians caused by short pedestrian signals, an IoT signal control broker is used to provide additional time. In addition, by providing appropriate services in the pedestrian section through monitoring, the exposure of pedestrians to danger within the pedestrian segment can be minimized.Findings: The traffic signal system, excluding specific protection area, configures a signal system based on the data collected on the general traffic situation to provide signal times. The IoT signal extension broker suggested in this paper takes into account the priority rights of pedestrians that had thus far not been considered in the existing traffic system to provide additional time for pedestrians. Support is also provided in cases where there are obstacles in the pedestrian zone or where there are unanticipated situations. The proposed system is based on the existing system with the IoT environment added to reduce the accident risk of pedestrians without increasing the complexity.Improvements/Applications: The pedestrian crossing time control using IoT signal control broker evaluates the data collected from the IoT environment to provide support services in each situation and additional time for crossing
