Abstract

Nowadays, various cosmetic blushers from different brands and regions being sold in Iraqi markets. The main aim of this paper is to identify its usage suitability by which too many Chinese brands forms the majority of these blushers. X-ray fluorescence and laser induced breakdown spectroscopy techniques has been applied to calculate the concentrations of various elements like Si, Mg, Ti, Al, Ba, Zn, Cl, and Rb in three different Chinese blusher brands being sold at local Iraqi markets. In order to test the validity of our laser induced breakdown spectroscopy results, technique like X-ray powder diffraction was applied; the concentrations of elements contaminants measured with our laser induced breakdown spectroscopy setup are in close agreement with our results by X-ray fluorescence and X-ray powder diffraction. It was found that the component of these blusher substances such as Rutile and Talc. Additionally, it has been found that some elements species such as Si, Ti, and Mg have much higher concentration than the safe permissible limits compared to the declared food and drug administration limits for human use and could lead to serious health problems, which is a matter of grave concern especially in unbranded blusher samples. Therefore, it is highly recommended for decision makers to follow up all the products being sold in the markets.
