Abstract

This study investigated the effect of COSIMPLE implementation to enhance students’ empathy from the Theology Faculty. COSIMPLE specifies as a type of Contextual Teaching and Learning that is based on Socio Emotional Competence theory. Quantitative research was deployed in the form of one group pre-test and post-test design and t-test measurement. The population included the students of Theology Faculty, University of Duta Wacana Yogyakarta and 60 students in Pastoral Counseling program were being the sample of this study. The results of this study were that there were significant differences in the total score of empathy scores between before (pre test) and after the COSIMPLE method (post test). This can be measured from the total score of empathy at the time before being given the COSIMPLE method (pre test) of 112.12, lower than the total score of the empathy attitude when after the COSIMPLE method (post test) was 121.67. As for the results of the paired sample t test for the comparison between the total score of empathy score at the time before (pre test) and after the COSIMPLE method (post test) showed a significance value of 0.001 smaller than alpha 0.05 (p <0.05, reject Ho). The suggestion for the next researcher is to develop a research methodology by using quasi experiments to be able to compare the COISMPLE method with other methods. The development of this research methodology will be able to further strengthen the test results that the COSIMPLE method is a method that can be used in the learning process.
