Abstract

In this paper the path loss exponent 'n' is formulated and analyzed using likelihood function based on Received signal strength data collected at residential buildings. The computation of 'n' value provides better performance in terms of standard deviation of mean path loss resulted in comparison to the existing the ITU and Two-Ray models at 2.4GHz. Comparisons of our predicted path loss indicate up to 37.88% improvements in average accuracy over AMATA propagation model developed for flat topped dwellings and ITU, Two ray path loss models. This new formulation of path loss exponent is a major step towards higher degree of estimation of path loss in wireless sensor networks.
