Abstract

Conventional fossil fuel combustion-based energy conversion systems contribute the greenhouse gas emissions. It needs to be replaced by a renewable energy conversion system. Due to greenhouse gas emission, air quality in the atmosphere gets disturbed, climate changes, and also global warming effect produces are the major concern across the world. Based on literature cited, fuel cell technology integrated with renewable resources is playing an important role in today’s scenario. Solar energy is available in the nature in an abundant form that can be harnessed through solar panels. This paper focuses on utility of solar energy integrated with fuel cell system to meet the new energy demand worldwide. This paper reviewed about the hydrogen fuel cell development, and its future targets. Moreover, recent challenges in direct liquid fuel cells have been reviewed carefully. Also, the advantages and limitations of the fuel cells with battery, heat engine energy conversion processes, mechanical, electrical, and solar systems are discussed.
