Self-Employment In Rural Area As A Method To Overcome Unemployment: Dynamics Of Social Studies Results

Abstract

The article concerns with results of five social studies conducted to research possibilities for unemployed people who refer to employment service seeking for job in Novosibirsk region to become self-employed. The dynamics of unemployed people main features is studied, as well as peculiarities of unemployment and its negative consequences, attitude of other citizens to jobless people in their places of residence, attitude of the family and their own attitude to unemployment, financial sources of jobless people, self-estimate and need for state support, influence of reference groups on movement towards self-employment, plans of jobless people regarding their employment and readiness to fulfill them, attitude to work, motivation of transfer to self-employment, family and necessary support. A number of tendencies is revealed, such as decrease of a part of youth and increase of people of pre-retirement age in sampling; specific weight growth of higher and secondary educated people; reduction of share of people who lost their jobs for the first time and increase of those who lost their jobs twice and more times; decrease of people who had to economize on essentials, and increase of people with no financial troubles; decrease of people hoping on state support measures, but their number is still relative high; decrease of people wishing to start own business and increase of allotmenteering people. It has been concluded that employment of jobless people is possible through development of self-employment, necessity of their support and aid from governmental authorities, which let people overcome welfare mentality, obtain own business development strategy.
