Enterprise Service Bus (EBS) Implementation In a School Self Service System

Demelyn E. Monzon
Abstract

Open University Graduate students are faced with challenges as they are promised a borderless, 24x7, no downtime education system. On the other hand, universities have numerous concerns in running a vital school. This includes attending to endless inquiries of students from around the globe. This study tried to bring into realization thru the use of a new and cheap technology, a system that serves as a self-service gateway for the students of the Open University system. The gateway uses a developed Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) in pushing and pulling data to and from the school’s information systems. This enables the student to monitor the state of the student’s enrolment, pending requirements to take, curriculum prerequisites, completion of requirements, payment notifications, thesis or dissertation status, and other related activities of the graduate student. The Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) used in this study served as middleware tool which was used to distribute work among connected components of the application. TheEnterprise Service Bus’ (ESBs) were designed to provide a uniform means of moving work, enabling the system to connect to the bus and subscribe to messages based on simple structural and business policy rules. The study uses the Technology Acceptance Model and adopted ISO 9126 in the evaluation of the software product thru a survey questionnaire to prospective system users.
