Abstract

Service orientation is a new software engineering paradigm that introduces opportunities as well as challenges. The need of workflow management systems appears in the requirement of flexible methods to manage workflows in business processes that are frequently changed over time. The flexibility features of workflow systems represent a critical issue in the existing research which lacks such features. This work presents a review of state-of-the-art works related to the Service Oriented Systems (SOS) or Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) implemented by workflow system adaptation. A set of work related to the workflow management systems that adapt to changes and dynamics is presented in this paper as well. Finally, the discussed systems are evaluated in terms of flexibility and dynamicity.
