Homemade Non-toxic Pesticides Derived From Garlic (Allium sativum), Dried Chillies(Capsicum annuum) and Lemongrass (Cymbopoguscitratus)

Abstract

Nowadays, with people are aware of the harmfulness of pesticide, organic pesticide is getting popular. In addition, in order to cut cost, people are interested with homemade non-toxic pesticides that is friendly environment, safe and only use local resources, which will be convenient. Thus, this research is done to determine whether garlic, lemon grass or dried chillies can kill or repel these pests and insects. In this research, experimental method is use to produce three non-toxic pesticide using organic products: lemon grass spray, garlics spray and chilli spray. Two types of insects, mealworm and cockroaches, were used in this research. From the experiment, garlic can kill or repel faster, followed by lemon grass and then dried chilies. Hence, a homemade non-toxic pesticide that is safe, cheap and easy to find, which is garlic, can be used to kill or repel insect.
